I have been running Win 7 for a while now on a spare laptop, having acquired it through a torrent site, but MS have said at CES that they are going to be releasing legit beta versions on the 9th January – take a look here. There is a feel out there that MS were behind the original torrent releases anyway, but it’s nice for the tech community to get a "legit" look in.
So far it looks good, but whilst there are a lot of neat features, I can’t help but feel that it’s kind of Vista service pack X.
There is a lot of negativity out there about Vista, and a lot of it I feel is unjustified and due more to hearsay than people actually seeing it, (google the Mojave project!), and I feel that Win 7 is probably little more than a new name and a bit of spit and polish to improve sales.
Would that stop me from upgrading when released – no of course not! I’m a computing geek and will always upgrade!!

Being a computer geek can be expensive…
But fun

Definately fun – especially when you “try” to explain it to your wife and family….!

Forget MS – Ubunto is a user friendly linux distro

1) It’s Ubuntu not ubunto!
2) Linux even with the latest Ubuntu flavours is an OS that requires users to know more about computing than is strictly necessary. Whilst I personally am happy to play with Ubuntu, (I have the latest release running in a virtual machine); it’s just easier to run Windows given that the rest of the family have to use it.
